Nate Monson is a life long Iowan. Nate graduated from Clarke College (Dubuque, IA) in 2007 with a BA. At Clarke, he served as the longest serving Student Body President in the college’s history with a total of three terms. Nate was instrumental in creating an open environment for the campus by establishing a Diversity Grant Program which allowed large amounts of funding for groups who wished to create events targeting various diversity related issues.

In his first term he was successful in presiding over a Student Senate which passed a resolution supporting expanding the non-discrimination policy to include sexual orientation for the city of Dubuque. The city of Dubuque later passed the non-discrimination policy in a closely followed vote.

He has worked extensively on several political and organizational campaigns. Nate’s extensive political work includes working with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to elect Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin of South Dakota in her special election race, activating female voters who rarely or never have voted before in Portland, Oregon, and several Iowa based campaigns.

Currently, Nate is the Executive Director of the GLBT Youth in Iowa Schools Task Force, which is a coalition of educators, civil rights and GLBT advocates, in partnership with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission. In this role, Nate is working to create safer schools and communities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) youth through public awareness, education, and policy.
