The 7th Annual Iowa Governors Conference on LGBTQ Youth will be held on Thursday, March 8th, 2012 at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. The Conference will attract over 500 educators, students, parents, and policy makers, and is designed to provide information, resources, and enhance public understanding about lesbian, gay,bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. It is open to the general public, but it will be most beneficial to those interested in the safety and well-being of LGBTQ youth including educators, policy makers, parents, and students.
The workshops will be 90 minutes in length and will encompass a wide range oftopics, focusing in on the theme of the Conference – Speak OUT. Speak OUT will focus on giving resources and educating straight allies on becoming more active for LGBTQ equality and acceptance while also helping students in attendance receive education andleadership development opportunities.
Workshop topics including information on Race/Ethnicity, Transgender Youth, Individuals with Disabilities, Faith Communities, Immigration, and Youth Advocacy are strongly encouraged. Other topics are welcome.
This Conference we are emphasizing interactive environments during the session. Presenters are encouraged to use one interactive activity during asession.
