Meet Zach Rus

Zach Rus (He/Him/His) is the Executive Director at Iowa Safe Schools. He has devoted his entire career to higher education and philanthropy and is excited to be guiding Iowa Safe Schools during this critical time. His extensive background in nonprofit management, leadership development, and fundraising equips him to implement innovative programs that promote respect and inclusion across Iowa.

Growing up in northwest Iowa, Zach understands the unique challenges faced by students and families in rural communities. As a first-generation college student, he graduated from Simpson College, igniting his passion for educational equity and advocacy.

Most recently, at Ellipsis, Zach led strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing organizational visibility, fundraising, and fostering community partnerships. His philanthropic philosophy emphasized the importance of dignity for all kids and families, further preparing him to lead Iowa Safe Schools. Now, as Executive Director of Iowa Safe Schools, he is committed to advancing the organization’s mission through collaborative partnerships with educators, community organizations, parents, and policymakers.
