School boards make decisions that influence what students learn, how schools are resourced, and whether every student feels safe and supported. From free speech and library access to anti-bullying and nondiscrimination protections, their choices directly affect the daily lives of LGBTQ students and their peers.
Most recently, school boards across Iowa are being urged by their attorneys to remove gender identity from nondiscrimination policies. Iowa law does not require these changes.
We've seen boards reconsider and choose to maintain inclusive policies--but only when communities come together and speak up with accurate information.
If your school is proposing, discussing, or voting on a policy that could impact LGBTQ students, please share that information using the form below. Your report helps us track trends across Iowa, coordinate with key local players, and support advocacy efforts.
